Application to perform calculations related to the cooking and brewing of craft beer.
The application currently has 5 modules divided into 2 sections, elaboration and measurement, to facilitate the calculations in the production of Craft Beer
1 - Apparent Alcohol Calculation / Attenuation:
- Alcohol: By entering the original gravity and the final gravity, the alcohol grade that the beer will have is obtained.
- Attenuation: The attenuation reflects the reduction of wort density, as a result of fermentation. It will also be calculated starting from the original gravity and final
gravity.
Variables:
- Original Gravity
- Final Gravity
Calculation:
- Alcohol
- Attenuation
2 - Calculation of IBU - Tinseth Method
IBU - International Bitterness Unit (International Bitterness Unit) is a number that denotes the bitter tenor characteristic of beer. The larger the IBU, the more bitter the
beer will be. The responsible of this argregory is the hop that in addition to bitter tenor can deliver flavors and aromas.
Variables:
- Gravity of the lot
- Lot volume (in liters)
- Alpha-acid content of hops
- Amount of hops and if this is in FLOWER or PELLET
- Cooking time (in minutes)
Calculation:
- IBU
- Total IBUs
3 - Correction of Gravity (by Temperature):
Many of the calculations needed to cook craft beer come off gravity. The gravity varies depending on the temperature, for this reason to make more accurate measurements it
is necessary to adjust the results.
Variables:
- Temperature
- Calibration of the hydrometer
- Measured gravity.
Calculation:
- Corrected gravity
4 - Carbonation with CO2
When the coldest beer is, the more CO2 will dissolve inside it, being less outside the beer, in the empty space of the barrel.
Variables:
- Beer temperature
- Expected volume of CO2.
Calculation:
- Pressure in bars
5 - Converter Brix / Gravity:
The Brix degrees are a unit of quantity (symbol ° Bx) and they serve to determine the total ratio of dry matter (usually sugars) dissolved in a liquid. They are quantified
with a refractometer. Through this formula the result in Brix degrees are converted to specific gravity. Brix degrees can also be obtained starting from gravity. This
calculation is constantly used in the production of craft beer.
Variables:
- º Brix
- Gravity
Calculation:
- º Brix / Gravity
The elaboration of a craft beer, is born from the idea of creating something on a smaller scale and in a "manual" way, in order to preserve the maximum control over the
elaboration and ensuring a final product of higher quality. The objective of this App is to provide the brewer with the necessary calculations for the elaboration of his
beer and give him tools so that he can have control over the flavors and characteristics in the production of his craft beers.
Any improvement or suggestion will be welcome.
Enjoy a good craft beer!
